What is colored siding?

Colored cladding is simply cladding with a hue, a color, other than the natural color of the base material. This type of cladding is ideal for adding a touch of aesthetics, personalization and style to the facade or wall of your home or building.

There are many different colors for siding, and it's easy to find the one you like.

Colored cladding can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, metal, PVC, stone, brick, composite, concrete and other cladding materials, but can also be created through treatments, oils or paints applied to the cladding.

What's the best color for cladding?

Choosing the right color for siding depends on the project. Several factors can be observed, such as :

  • Building architecture and style: Certain colors complement certain architectural styles better.
  • Environment and landscape: The color of the cladding should harmonize or contrast pleasantly with its surroundings.
  • Climate: Lighter colors tend to reflect more sunlight, which can be advantageous in warmer regions to keep buildings cooler. Conversely, darker colors absorb more heat, which can be beneficial in colder climates.
  • Color trends: While trends can influence color choice, it's important to consider the durability of the desired look. Neutral colors tend to be more fashionable over time than bright colors.

Choosing the color of your wood cladding

Go for a natural shade

A natural stain is achieved with a transparent or semi-transparent stain, which preserves and enhances the natural grain and texture of the wood, offering protection while retaining the wood's authentic appearance. Or a woody tint: light oak, cedar, walnut or redwood, which slightly modifies the color of the wood while retaining its natural appearance. They are perfect for harmonizing with natural environments.

Choose a solid color

White or pastel shades can brighten the look of a property and give it a fresh, welcoming air. These colors are often used for home styles such as seaside, cottage or colonial... Greys, both light and dark, are on trend for wood cladding. They offer a contemporary look and are excellent for creating contrast with greenery or other natural elements.

Black, navy blue or dark green can give wood siding a modern, elegant look. Although less common, bright colors like red, blue or green can be used to create accents or for unique projects where the aim is to stand out.
